The highlight of The Farm's sports program, horseback riding, includes instruction for riders of all levels. Experienced teachers offer lessons in hunt seat equitation and Western Pleasure on horses that have been selected to meet the needs of riders with varying abilities. Our facilities feature a generous outdoor ring in addition to the 200 acres of The Farm's campus.
Campers curious to explore riding and horse care for the first time benefit from specifically designed exercises to build the balance and strength necessary for the high art of riding. More experienced riders will be challenged to refine the use of their aids, including practicing varying forms of trotting and cantering, performing maneuvers, and learning the foundations of jumping. Advanced riders may decide on the focus of their instruction in close consultation with their teacher. Awareness of horse anatomy and physiology are stressed at all levels to inculcate an understanding on the part of the campers about the conditions creating harmony between rider and horse.
