
Ianthe Jackson
Artist in Residence - Farm Session 1 - 2009

Ianthe Jackson was born in Buffalo, NY and currently lives and works in Brooklyn NY. She attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and received her MFA in Sculpture from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.
Ianthe practices art in Brooklyn, NY. She has had solo exhibitions at Jack the Pelican Presents Gallery in Brooklyn, and Luxe Gallery’s project room in Manhattan. Ianthe exhibited her work at Philadelphia’s Eastern State Penitentiary in 2004. She has had residencies at Sculpture Space in 2003, ARTOmi in 2005, Shining Cliff Residency as part of My House Gallery in England, and Homeland Gallery in Portland, OR in 2007.
Ianthe began her educational work as a teacher in the NYC Department of Education. She has taught in art programs serving elementary school through university students. She has worked at the Tyler School of Art teaching video; the Joan Mitchell Foundation teaching art to middle and high school students with a focus in sculpture, and the Aldrich Museum of Art where she taught animation.
In addition to teaching she has developed, implemented, and directed programs -- and collaborated with teachers -- on many projects throughout her career. She developed programs though Open Road of NY in New Design High School, Open Road Park, and a city-wide mapping project in collaboration with Growing Up in Cities. Her most recent work was with the Urban Assembly of Music and Art where she developed a comprehensive art program, oversaw the arts integration component of the school, and was a coach and team leader to the 9th grade artists.
